Most rings are designed around the finger.
This one was designed around the stone, and the stone had its own opinions.
Prehnite does not perform. It sits there, pale and a little glassy, and waits for you to notice what it is doing. In certain light it reads almost mint. In others it goes warm and translucent, like something lit from inside. It is not a stone that announces itself. It earns your attention slowly.
The bezel took longer than the stone. One side rises to a point, clean and deliberate, almost architectural. The other side stays low. That asymmetry is not decorative. It is structural. It gives the piece a direction, a sense that it is oriented toward something.
A 2 mm band. High-polish throughout. Nothing added that did not need to be there.
Size 9.75 This ring lends itself to traditional finger placement; or, you can wear it on the base of the thumb or the lower knuckle of the pointer finger for. This is a ring you see when you reach for something.
One piece. 925 sterling silver. Natural prehnite cabochon. Built to suit the stone.
When it finds its person, that chapter closes.
PRODUCT STORY
I had been thinking about asymmetry as direction rather than decoration.
Not a design choice made for visual interest. A form that implies movement, like something that knows which way it is going.
The prehnite arrived pale and translucent and a little self-contained. It did not need much. What it needed was a setting that matched its temperament: precise, unhurried, with one edge that meant something.
The shield point came from that. One side rises. The other stays grounded. The stone sits between them and does exactly what it has always done.
I built the band at 2 mm because anything wider would have competed. It does not compete.
