Introduction to Encaustic Class

Paint with heat. Create with wax.

This 5-hour hands-on class introduces you to the ancient art of encaustic painting—a luminous, dimensional medium made from beeswax, pigment, and fire/heat. You’ll learn layering, fusing, and texture techniques, and leave with an 8x10 encaustic painting on wood that’s entirely your own.

No art experience required. Just curiosity, a willingness to experiment, and a love of color and texture.

What You’ll Learn:

Encaustic Basics
What encaustic is, how it works, and why artists have been using this medium for over 2,000 years.

Melting & Fusing
How to melt pigmented beeswax, apply it to a surface, and fuse each layer with heat to create depth and luminosity.

Layering & Texture
How to build up translucent layers, scrape back to reveal what’s underneath, and create texture using tools, found objects, and natural materials.

Finishing
How to polish and buff your finished piece so it glows.

What You’ll Make:

You’ll create an 8x10 encaustic painting on wood—abstract, layered, and luminous. The piece you make will shift with light and perspective, revealing new depth every time you look at it.

This is not about perfection. It’s about exploration, intuition, and letting the wax guide you.
